Central plant overview at a beverage site

Starting point
Ten separate lines with their own PLCs and panels in different TIA versions. The goal was a central overview without intervening in the machine controllers.
Scope
Central visualization with WinCC Unified PC Runtime V21, read-only access to all ten PLCs and remote view of the existing panels. Licensing sized to actual demand: 500 instead of 1,000 PowerTags.
Result
On-site commissioning in August 2026, runtime and web client in operation. As of October 2026, the remaining lines follow once plant IT releases the network ports.

S7-300 to S7-1200 G2 retrofit at a waste-to-energy plant

Starting point
The central dust extraction system was controlled by an S7-300 and operated via push buttons on the terminal cabinet. It was to be renewed without touching the hard-wired safety chain.
Scope
Retrofit to S7-1200 G2 in TIA Portal V21 with a Unified Basic panel, an alarm system and a manual mode agreed with the operating staff. Circuit diagram updated in EPLAN, safety acceptance prepared as a structured report.
Result
Completed in July 2026 at the agreed fixed price, with seven days on site and a briefing at handover.

Automation engineering in Lucerne

Mid-sized companies rarely have time for long projects: the plant has to keep running, and interventions must fit into weekends or company holidays. Often there is no in-house automation department, so one contact is needed for program, HMI and commissioning. We prepare changes and retrofits remotely, test them in simulation and implement them on site within the agreed window.

Frequently asked questions

No automation department of our own: can one contact cover everything?

Yes, that's a common situation. We deliver program, HMI and commissioning from a single source; your electrical contractor handles installation and wiring. The documentation is written so that your on-call maintenance staff can find their way around it at night.

Our PLC still runs on S5 or S7-300. How do we replace it?

Start with a survey: which hardware is installed, is there an up-to-date project, how long is the shutdown window? The S7-300 has been discontinued, with spare parts expected until around 2033, possibly for a shorter time according to Siemens; S5 no longer has regular supply. The retrofit assessment shows the migration path to S7-1500 or S7-1200 G2 with effort and time required.

Can you build a central plant overview with WinCC Unified?

Yes. For a beverage producer in Germany we brought ten separate lines together in one WinCC Unified overview – read-only, without changing the machine programs. Licensing was sized to actual demand.

Do you offer remote maintenance?

Yes, via your remote access. Many faults can be narrowed down remotely before anyone needs to travel. On-site work is scheduled by appointment – in a breakdown, as soon as possible.

How quickly can you be in Lucerne?

Driving time from Stadtbredimus is about 4 h 50 min. Planned assignments are scheduled with some lead time, because on-site work requires a short advance notification. In a breakdown, we start via your remote access where available and arrange an on-site visit as soon as possible.

What documentation do we receive?

A functional design specification (FDS), test records, a commented TIA project and, if needed, operator documentation. Your maintenance team can carry on without us.

How is pricing determined?

After an initial assessment you receive a fixed-price quote for the engineering; commissioning and fault analysis are usually billed on a time basis. We handle the formalities and invoice in CHF, or EUR on request.
